米陸軍基地で銃撃事件、兵士5人が負傷容疑者拘束

[アトランタ６日ロイター] - 米南部ジョージア州のフォート・スチュワート陸軍基地で６日、現役の軍曹が私物の拳銃で同僚の兵士５人を銃撃する事件が発生した。容疑者はその後、他の兵士に取り押さえられ拘束された。軍当局が発表した。

負傷した兵士５人の容態は安定しており、回復する見込み。動機は明らかではないという。

容疑者はこの基地に配属されているコーネリウス・ラドフォード（２８）と特定された。これまで戦闘に派遣されたことはなかった。

軍当局者は「訓練と関係があったとは思えない」と述べた。

拳銃がどのようにして基地の警備をすり抜けて施設内に持ち込まれたのかは不明という。

２０２０年国勢調査によると、この基地には約９０００人が生活している。
