トランプ氏、米首都治安維持で州兵派遣の可能性示唆

[ワシントン６日ロイター] - トランプ米大統領は６日、首都ワシントンの治安維持のために州兵を派遣する可能性を示唆した。

トランプ氏はホワイトハウスで記者団に「わが国の首都は非常に危険だ。ワシントンＤＣを管理しなければならない。米国で最も適切に管理すべき場所だ」と語った。

これまでもトランプ氏は首都を連邦政府の管理下に置く意向をちらつかせてきたが、週末に「政府効率化省」の若手職員が襲撃されて負傷した事件を受け、改めて連邦政府の出番だとの見方を示した。

「政府効率化省」トップを務めた実業家イーロン・マスク氏も、職員襲撃事件に言及して「今こそＤＣを連邦政府の所轄にすべきだ」と記した。

記者からワシントンの警察機構を連邦が接収することを検討しているかと聞かれたトランプ氏はこれを肯定。「１人の若者が命を失う寸前だった。首都を美しくしていく。犯罪、強盗、殺人の件数は恥ずべきもので決して放置しない。その対策には、恐らく非常に迅速な州兵投入も含まれる」と明言した。

ワシントンでは今年１─７月に暴力犯罪が前年比で２６％減り、犯罪総数は約７％減少したことが警察の記録で分かる。

ワシントンのバウザー市長の広報担当者はコメントを拒否した。
