米軍大将ポスト2割削減を指示、国防長官「戦略的即応性の最大化」へ

[ワシントン５日ロイター] - ヘグセス米国防長官は５日、米軍で最高位となる４つ星階級（大将級）の将官を２０％削減するよう指示した。トランプ政権による国防総省の人員削減をさらに進める。

ヘグセス氏は以前から、軍の最高幹部が多すぎると指摘してきた。

ロイターが最初に報じたメモで、ヘグセス氏は州兵の将官を最低２０％削減することや、軍全体で将官をさらに１０％削減することも明らかにした。

Ｘに投稿した動画では「大将や提督を増やしても、さらなる成功にはつながらない」と指摘。今回の人員削減について統合参謀本部と協力したとし、「戦略的即応性の最大化」が狙いだと説明した。

ヘグセス氏は議会の指名承認公聴会で、大将級の将官が４４人いると述べていた。それ以降、統合参謀本部議長、海軍トップ、国家安全保障局長を解任している。

ジャック・リード上院議員はヘグゼス氏には軍幹部を理由なく解雇した実績があると非難し、経験豊富な将官の多くを正当な理由もなく排除することは軍の効率化につながらないと指摘した。
